Daily stand up takes 30 minutes for about 5-6 people. It’s chit chatter and people talking about details of how fixing things, etc. We go through a list of notables, people write down that they’re going to see a play or something unrelated. It’s mind numbingly bad. Retros I find to be completely useless. It’s an hour of uselessness. It’s more like going through the motions. I’d rather watch paint dry.
Your team is doing it wrong. With 6 people our standup would take less than six minutes and that includes waiting for the conference room when the prior meeting runs over.
It doesn’t matter, this is how they do it. I already mentioned that I thought it was inefficient and my boss lectured me that it’s good “team bonding” time. And that my comment was indicative of being lack of a “team player”.
Interesting comments in that thread from both sides
This was the sentiment I shared when I was first starting my career. I can only imagine how naive I sounded to my coworkers/managers. I thought I was bad ass for cranking out bunch of features tasks. And all of these meetings were just slowing me down. I hope you are not in a similar situation OP.
Comment doesn’t make sense. You’re saying that you feel scrum rituals are helping you or hindering you (either early or later) in your career?
What bothers you exactly? Do you have to work extra time to compensate for the meeting?
This is why everything is so chaotic at Meta. A bunch of junkies trying to be cool by not following structure
