just got offers from both companies. i was laid off from vmware, so it’s an internal transfer but comes with a promotion and salary bump. however, my zoom offer is for a devops engineer role, while the vmware offer is for software engineer 2 role. details below. 1 YOE vmware role: swe2 base: 120k rsu: 40k (rolled over from previous role, so technically only 30k) signing: none bonus: 12% tc: ~145k zoom role: devops engineer base: 130k rsu: 120k signing: 15k bonus: 8% tc: ~185k* since i was laid off, i would get an additional ~40k severance from vmware zoom easily wins in terms of comp, but the difference is the role. my previous role was infra engineering, so i am familiar with devops and i know it can be hell. not sure which role would be better for my future career. i would eventually like to get into a pm or security role. #offers #interview
SRE and DevOps roles can be on call hell so maybe reach out to other on LinkedIn to see how much fire fighting it is?

SWE > DevOps
for what reasons specifically? is it worth leaving 80k on the table?
Depends. Can SWE unlock an 80k+ pay bump in the future?
