You cannot make this up…
My manager is a nice person but he doesn't have the vision to take his team to success. He has been doing the same job for 5+ years and never made career progress. I joined 6 months ago and all he wanted me to do is to carry on his legacy and make no change/improvement in the work process. Management recognized where he is lacking and assigned our team to a new manager and my manager will be his sole direct report. In other words the only job of the new skip level will be to manage my manager. Will it be considered backstabbing if I share my honest feedback with the new skip level? P.S. My manager's value is to satisfy the internal clients' needs, even if they aren't eligible asks. He isn't seen by our management as a strong leader because he doesn't focus on scalable solution or value add projects. I have spoken to him as soon as I notice these issues since I joined but he kept on his path. Yes he is a nice person. With that said, he micro manages and gives little to no autonomy.
talk with your manager first if he is a nice person
I would give direct feedback to your manager first and see how they deal with it.
Don't go to skip with this shit. It will not end well.
give your manager direct feedback, for sure.
Hmm... the reaction here is so different...interesting
Going to skip can backfire - you should be ready for bad review or even to get fired if you do it. Talking shit about your manager to skip is potentially starting the war - have no doubts about it. I seriously doubt you got skip just to manage your manager - that's not how it works. Most likely is is supposed to start growing bigger team with multiple managers etc.
I happen to know a bad manager in fb, no vision and product get pivoted, he threaten his team members to leave company or pip em. Ugly as hell
your manager is on his way out, the new person is doing the transition behind the scenes
have you spoken to the manager about this? since you say he is a nice person maybe someone just needs to give him a 'talk' and push him in the right direction. also are you in Eng? asking because it's interesting to know what value your manager adds then
Not engineering. We service internal business teams.
what others said. definitely talk to him if you haven't already
