I broke in by starting at a smaller/ less known tech company. I’m still not at a FANNG but I make FANNG money so it’s good enough for me. Lol
Technically we are still hiring although we just had layoffs (strategy not financial). DM if you want a referral.
That’s a lot of hashtags. But anyway: UXR is notoriously exclusionary, challenging, and hard to break into at the FAANG level. Probably not worth the headache. My recommendation would be to track down some internships for UXR, if that’s something you feel strongly about. If you’re past internships, then try to get a UX certificate and apply for roles at startups that seem fairly desperate for any UX talent.
Thanks for the honesty I’ve been at it for a minute and I’m looking at going back for a mba even though my last interviewer pushed against it. It looks like that’s we’re all the roles are being pushed.
An MBA won’t help you get into UXR. If you’re thinking to get a masters get something in HCI or even a psych program with a good research bent. MBA will really not teach you the skills for UXR or be impressive. What you need is a portfolio (it can be a PPT for UXR, the design skills aren’t actually needed for a dedicated UXR role as opposed to a UXD). Portfolio presentation should show how you use research to improve product (or marketing if that’s your background).
