Hey everyone! Have you ever stopped to think about the logic behind the rat race? Why do we feel the need to constantly strive for more? More money, more possessions, more status? Why not embrace a simpler life in a beautiful state, surrounded by nature and forest trees? 🌳🏞️ Invest in a small condo, enjoy the peace and quiet, and let your kids figure things out for themselves! After all, in the USA, you can be anything you want to be, and your kids will learn to manage their finances and make their own way in life. Running after TC is baseless according to me. Running after fulfillment is the way forward. What do you think? #tech#life
I agree. The only point in aggressively chasing TC is to get out as quickly as possible. And even when that's your goal, you need to be constantly mindful of the temptation to keep going for more than you need. That's what comes from humans having evolved to survive times of scarcity but currently lico (in the rich countries) in a world of amazing abundance.
This assumes opportunities exist over time. This is not a true statement. If you were a typist, in the 60s you were in demand I think the department of labor used to have it as it's own labor category. Today, that job doesn't exists. Now consider you have a nest egg of 3-5 million. If you are diagnosed or otherwise incur a spend of 300k annually for some reason, you are drawing down principal. Your best years and prime earnings years are now behind you. Now if your net worth, is say 2-5 billion, u "safely" can afford to just sit in a room all day and do nothing but burn money. If not, welcome to the rat race.
Also if you do something long enough, you naturally be one good and possessive that you want to do it. Then derive pleasure. Everyone eventually experiments and tweaks their wlb. There's a reason why senior devs are less tolerant of corporate bs but young new grads are hungry to prove themselves.
I know I should not be in the rat race for the sake of $ or TC. I am in the rat race for $ and TC. I should know when enough is enough I have enough but still can't stop going for more.
Or are still in it due to fulfillment and enjoying your work. Otherwise what's the game plan by quitting, sit around doing nothing?
@taalman1, are you really so devoid of interests that you couldn't find something worthwhile to do with your time without a boss telling you what to do?
People don't know what they want. So they just follow what everyone around them is doing because they feel it surely must be the right path. People are unhappy, yet too scared to try something different.
One needs money to be in a position to chase fulfillment. Saying this is very idealistic, when you have bills and responsibilities, it’s not so easy to relinquish and shrug your responsibilities.
See. I’m not saying stop working. I’m just saying quit the rat race
But the point is that no matter how much you have, you can keep talking about the "need" to earn more money to cover those bills, without ever stopping to think about whether you really need all the things you're paying for.
