We do eat chicken/beef and know how the entire cycle of getting meat works. Do you find killing other bigger animals like, whales, sharks, elephants, rhinos etc inappropriate?
Human existence is all about gathering food and resouces to gather more food efficiently.
I eat meat. That’s normal. Non-vegetarian is a bullshit word. And is often weaponized by many idiots in India as valid ground for discrimination. If anything, vegetarians should be described as non-meaters. Nothing wrong with being a vegetarian though. It’s actually good.
You seem to have limiled exposure to world. Non-vegetarian is a well know word outside your bubble. Appreciate you sharing your opinion. No need to target a particular nation.
Magikarp is a known India hater on blind. I am surprised he hasn't yet changed his handle.
Killing smarter animals is wrong
Maintaining balance on the ecosystem is critical. I eat meat happily and will continue to do so. I won’t say eating whales or sharks should be illegal, but extremely limited and sometimes just straight up restricted to preserve the population. And no hunting whales with newborn calves. It’s the same as hunting a deer who has a youngling with them. You should pass. But there’s more important species as well. Land animals in Africa are disappearing to bush meat. This is happening because the fish population is decimated from overfishing. This is the root of the issue. Tuna population is disappearing. I love sushi, but not that bad. Support sustainable aquaculture efforts.
Since reading Taleb's Black Swan, I tend to think in his terminology. Killing animals by hands, not by machines is in Mediocristan. The mean won't change much if someone kills a few extra. Killing animals by using huge machinery in farms or in wild is in Extremistan. It can take unimaginable directions. I think any animal that you kill with your own hand is okay. Any animal that is killed by giant corporations for you is not okay. That is the only way to maintain sustainability. Not by checking the sustainable labels on meat boxes.
I just feel its all about emotional attachment. If you love dogs, you cant imagine them being killed for meat. Same for, for example, tortoise. I find them cute and innocent, dont wnat them to be killed. But then i think, even chicken and pigs are innocent. Why do i eat them?
Is it more that you are against conscious beings suffering? Or living things suffering in general?
My thoughts were shattered when i saw a video of a lady eating tortoise. I had a pet tortoise. I imagined mysely eating it as a delicious and that shattered my concepts about eating meat.
