Lockheed Martin MLE TC?

I saw that LM is hiring MLE position in CT (I am in NYC). I am currently at FB, but I always wanted to something more meaningful and good for the country. Does anyone have some idea on what TC I can expect? I guess it will be lower than big tech. #swe TC: 320K Yoe: 3 + phd

not sure if you can crack 200k, and that is a really optimistic number. also, having worked in defense, I don't think most people in defense do any good for the country through their jobs xD

I would suggest staying away from gov contracts. Or any government related work whatsoever. It's a shit show. Always.

Exactly, I got an offer and basically doubled my pay. But I did like 650 leetcode plus other studying for it.

PreIPO stock too.

Not worth it, I'm an MLE in CT. TC: 109k, 2 YOE

Thanks! The most direct answer. I am just curious, how big is your team? Do you think LM has a strong ML team?

Lockheed Martin turkblue May 14, 2021

Start a company and work directly with government contracts. I work in the data science research department here and the technical leadership is a joke. Had to explain to a lm fellow what a p value is.

Thanks! That’s surprising. I just had a fantasy of LM because they make F35!

Lockheed Martin Eyrysjs May 15, 2021

Levels.fyi has some info. You'd probably be around 160k... +/- 20k. The sweet part about those Shelton jobs is they're 100% remote. They don't advertise it

Make sure you're not being put to work on a jobs program just so that LM can charge $ to the taxpayer. Don't come to LM, go to NSA / USCYBERCOM, much more impactful.

Lockheed Martin Lkyrewav May 18, 2021

100% disagree with this, almost to the point where I feel like you're just trolling. That's such toxic thinking and completely false. You can make major impact if you have the smarts and drive, I've seen it done on several occasions where people transition their own ideas (they typically get a patent through LM) to major programs of record. It takes a ton of work but it's incredibly rewarding. And really really REALLY cool when you get to see it in action, whether it's on a plane, helicopter, UAV, submarine, etc. Government jobs provide nothing but unreasonable oversight to the projects and telling someone to go there because it's "more impactful" is ludicrous.

You're telling me that something like programming Stuxnet and fending off hackers is less impactful than working at the Skunk Works, where we have people sleeping in their cubicles? For fuck's sake one of our contractors was paid a quarter of a million dollars a year to read magazines in his cubicle. Nobody ever gave him any work, they sure as fuck did give him a gov charge number though. I've had the opportunity to work on impactful defense projects at my old company so I know that you can make an impact working at a defense contractor, but everything I've seen at LM tells me this company is one massive cash grab. One of our senior systems engineers was flat out told to do shit a high school intern could do, in retaliation for going to his skip and telling him that his actual manager wasn't giving him any work. Maybe you're actually working on something cool and impactful, maybe you're just ensuring this gravy train keeps going, but I have seen too many people here that are basically on welfare because they can hold a clearance.
