Hey Guys I just got an email to start the interview process for BAE systems SWE I ELDP (Engineering Leadership Development Program) and I wanted to know if anybody had any advice regarding the interview process, compensation, and etc... any help would be appreciated. The Sector is Electronic Systems according to the interview invitation TC: 85k YOE: 1 #engineering #software #baesystems
I was an ELDP for ES and hated it. I left and doubled my salary in a year as a SWE. If you want to stay in NH go for it but the program is intense and expects a lot of extra work on meaningless scenarios that aren’t relevant for a SWE. You are not paid for any extra time you are required to put in for it, and the people in New Hampshire are super tight knit so if you’re not there then it’s difficult imo.
I’d be happy to tell you all the specifics if you DM, some people really love the program and if you want to stay at the company long term it’s great to set you up that way.
Thanks! I’ll PM you rn!
As vet and current ES employee, I’m impressed with what I’ve seen from the LDP. With that said, I’m not in Eng, not a SWE and not familiar with the folks who would be mentors -they make a big difference on your experience. There’s opportunity to rotate positions/roles after a year ,but also opportunity to transition into a different functional area (Operations,Quality). As mentioned, they aren’t the highest paying but you would have opportunities to learn and grow and I’d suggest allowing yourself to learn/grow in this program and then jump for higher pay. If you come back as a “boomerang employee” it allows you to get that increased compensation but also different perspective before coming back to better culture. Personal experience, culture is good/great. NH is stuck in the “that’s how we’ve always done things” mentality, but people are good. I can count on one hand the people I don’t like. Hey would it be cool if I messaged you? I found a role at bae systems I would be a good fit for and was wondering if you could refer me.
eldp is for potential leadership role training, thats extra workload besides ur daily work. If u r from NH and doesn’t plan to move, I will recommend to take the opportunity. Ppl r cool, wlb is good, and job is stable compare to the tech companies right now. I am a hardware guy, but as long as I know, interview won’t be hard. Good luck
Sent you a DM op
Worked in ES for a few years. Interviews will likely consist of mostly LC easy questions. Explaining your thought process is more important than getting the right answer. Don’t be a total sperg and you’ll probably do well. Comp is below average. Promo is mostly tied to years of service, although some exceptions are made here-and-there. ELDP will likely require working in NH occasionally. Unless your role is specifically WFH, expect to spend considerable time in the SCIFs.
What’s SCIF?
One of the many acronyms you will encounter. Typically, it’s an air-gapped lab/office space where cleared employees work on classified projects. You should ask if the job will require obtaining a security clearance.
