A TC that qualifies for low income housing.
I'm guessing a 1 bed is probably 2500, probably a bit more tbh. If 2500, that's 30k a year post-tax. Add another 5k for utilities or other expenses. I'd say at least 120k cash TC should be okay, it'll leave you with about 70k after tax and 35k a year after paying rent.
Thank you for the reasonable answer! Really appreciate it
Check what other people say though. I may be completely wrong, don't live in SF. I do know people living in Mission Bay paying almost 3k a month in rent getting 150k TC and they were fine so I don't think my numbers are too off.
400 TC to be comfortable in SF
this sounds crazy at first glance but it’s actually true
$167,990/yr gross income gives you $8K/mo after tax. If you budget 5K/month for food, lodging and commute, you can still save $3K/month. You also get to put $18K/yr into your 401(k) and $3600/yr into your HSA account pre-tax.
wow, I think I like the Samsung Galaxy now
If you want to live by yourself in SF, and not in the suburby parts, you should have at least ~150K TC. You could live with roommates on less.
If you're willing to have roommates, you can be fine making around ~100k in SF.
