what if you feel like your new company you just join doesn’t fit..?

what would you do? i recently joined Cisco lv9 RnD position. (Please understand my vague description. my role is not that common in the company) I feel like my team and corp culture doesn’t fit me that well. My team is making a product facing a lot of users, but isn’t interested in making a world best product. GUi is terribly ugly I’ve ever seen, too many things are outdated, product usability is so bad, but we don’t even have a designer in the team. my team just want to maintain what we currently have and people respond to ideas very slowly. i used to work for B2C design-oriented products. before cisco, I was a contractor at Google and was about to start a conversion interview for l3 role. teams were moving very fast and people widely opened to make collaboration and horizontal/crossfunctional effort. it was very productive and i felt fulfilled a lot even though I was not a FTE. The reason I made my move was, I went through the interview and got an offer from Cisco way earlier than Google. Like I mentioned, I was about to start the conversion process with a referral from my manager(probably L6 or 7). I made significant impact to the team and my visibility was good. however, conversion interview might take over three months and still, the result wasn’t guaranteed. Since Cisco offered higher position at grade 9 and competitive numbers comparing to google lv3, I decided to join Cisco. (TC: 190k, YOE: 3) unfortunately, I’m disappointed with my team at cisco already in my first month. maybe i should learn more about cisco culture before signing the offer. that was my mistake. should i prepare another move or just stay and watch more? Once I became negative, everyday I find new negatives from small minor things too. I miss well-equipped buildings, well-funded operation supports, and all-day free foods that saved me from hell kitchen chores.

Get a life and enjoy the slowness.

Pretty early yet. Stick around and see if you can learn enough about the culture to understand what you can do to influence people to the right direction. Cisco products are ugly but they do what is expected. Not the same audience as for an iPhone.

If you go to Cisco it's usually to take it easy and enjoy the WLB. As said above stop worrying get a life and work on side projects while you cruise for one year or two
