As we all know there’s a lot of drama with spez and the userbase, but are things tense for you at work? How happy are you with spez so far? Do you think this is the best path to profitability? Now that he’s professed his admiration for Elon, are you worried about layoffs?
I think it started off pretty good, and the original premise made sense. it has taken a turn for the worst.
We’ve been worried about layoffs since the beginning of the year. We already released more than 10% of our work force in half a year (silently in Q1, and announced a layoff officially where even more left at the end of Q2). Before we were living in constant anxiety about layoffs but now that Spez praised Elon for how he demolished Twitter for entertainment, just confirms that engineers should leetcode again. Hiring expectations froze and plummeted, and we’re still overstaffed. We have talent reviews but performance doesn’t play a factor on job security, so there’s that. Everything indicates more layoffs. Are we happy with Spez? He’s a cool guy to have a casual conversation with. A bit awkward, but enjoy his company. But not satisfied at a professional level, seems too inexperienced. I bet Elon is laughing at how Steve praises him, and Elon sees this as an opportunity to destroy both Twitter and Reddit. I just feel bad for all the Twitter people we hired. It’s deja vu for them.
