My friend is offered senior principal solution architecture position in Oracle public cloud. Wondering how much people are making at this position? Thanks
I actually picked between Oracle, Amazon, and Google. I picked Oracle because I was impressed with the intelligence of the team I would be working with. The team required graduate level degrees and is working on some really challenging stuff. I was aware of the perception about Oracle before I joined. I didn't like the culture when I interviewed at Amazon and I didn't like that a lot of my friends at Google seemed to get assigned to projects they didn't enjoy and ended up switching teams multiple times. That being said, I'm going to have to switch companies if I want raises in the future because once you have your Oracle offer they don't hand out raises often. I also don't really like how the company handles its sales practices. Being such a large company, I definitely know some teams have people like who you're describing, but those people generally aren't the PhD level algorithm geniuses I see on other teams. The engineering culture for what I work on is good, but the company's overall actions definitely give it a bad reputation.
Sales is about to get completely reorged... but I definitely agree with your points.
How much does a principal at Oracle make?
SDE Principal at the Seattle Office (public cloud) can make 250k - 400k. Yes, the range is wide. Offers I've seen were typically in the 300-350k range.

'Hindutva': The Radical Hindu Ideology That Seeks to 'Push Christianity Out of India’
In the Bay, Oracle is considered one of worst places to work. I saw lots of my classmates, who even could't initiate an object, got offers from Oracle. However, if you are looking for 11am - 3pm work hours, Oracle is the place for you.
