Because they don’t hire people that don’t know how to write.

Its simple really. Imagine how many people are request content per second. Each employee has to run a long ass cord to the person streaming device each time they request said content. So you can imagine it’s grueling, but well worth the TC.

But it's the same challenge for Hulu, Amazon prime video or Comcast

Verizon TheDisGood Dec 27, 2018

All of the ones you mentioned reuse the lines. So it’s shittier service but easier on the employees

Netflix doesn’t waste money on L3 and L4 engineers, so they have more money to spend on L5+ folks, who truly generate value for the company. And the reason they pay more than fb/google is the same reason fb/google pays more than other companies: they wanna hire and retain the smartest engineers.

Why does Apple Pay so little?

Apple cho Chang Dec 27, 2018

Because they don’t care about hiring or retaining the smartest engineers. Except for AI/ML, secret projects, AR, etc.

As a Netflix Engineer I can say: different from other companies that I’ve worked before, I only work with high level engineers and if they don’t deliver they are just fired, simple as that. Saw many people coming from other top companies like google, Facebook and apple getting fired after 2-3 months. When you work here you usually have many responsibilities and you must be really responsible and pro active. The work you do impact directly into the product in one way or another. Some days you may need to stay late because if you don’t do your part you will impact directly other teams and ofc the users. It’s not for everyone, but most people I talked to love working here. Small teams of smart people working together, almost 0 internal competition and fat paychecks.

Roku is similar. Love the culture.

they don’t. tc is on par with others. it’s just in cash

Uber cawnt Dec 27, 2018

I can’t believe all these bullshit answers. YSih44, go wipe your nose. OP, the simple answer is that Netflix does not grant stocks to its employees like other FAANG companies. So, just like DvVM00 (how do you come up with these names?) said, they just pay cash.

Synack jsz8njb Dec 27, 2018

That’s not true - Netflix definitely gives stock. It’s just that you can choose to take that amount in cash. It’s a choice.

Netflix YSih44 Dec 28, 2018

They give you 5% of your salary in “options”, but you can convert any amount of your salary into stocks if you so desire.
