why is bay area so toxic?
I used to live in Bay and moved away to NYC, feeling much better now. In Bay, everyone around is so obsessed with TC, company brand, promotion, bonus, investment, real estate. I feel like I’m living under insane peer pressure and will never be able to enjoy life regardless of how much money earned. Dating scenario is disastrous for guys and 90% people you meet are from tech industry. Nowadays there are still people around me “dreaming about” going to bay area and start their tech career, I’ll give no comment and best luck to you. Why is bay area so toxic? What’s the root cause? No idea, people seem to feel like they are the shit over here just cause of FAANG and TC. Life is a lot more than that
This is my opinion as well. I moved from Seattle to Bay area. While Seattle is not much better for dates, but people were nice and not toxic or obsessed with TC.
This is why I’m moving there haha
Not sure that it is "toxic" to aspire to work hard and build wealth. The bay is amazing if you are wealthy so many folks come here with the goal of building wealth so they can enjoy it to the max. Dating is great but not as good as NYC. If you cannot handle peer pressure NYC is likely to be much worse so be careful; success and style are expected in NYC. Don't fix what isn't broken, just continue to move until you find your jam. Or focus on yourself so that peer pressure doesn't impact you.

I have a friend who works in Stripe, he thinks its the most toxic workplace, and even racist. Keep writing your documents. toxicity started with startups and now its everywhere in Bay Area. you cannot avoid folks, these are folks in all companies. We don't live in a shell.
