Career Change

I am trying to get into the Tech industry or the Gaming industry on business/management/marketing side as this is where my experience lies. How would you suggest I do that? Any advice on resume rewrites to fit my experience in real estate, property management, financials, operations, marketing, business development, consulting, etc. into that space? I have my bachelor’s in Marketing, and will finish my Master’s in Innovation and Entrepreneurship in December. I originally intended on getting into the tech space/gaming space, & then life took me this route. Any advice, certificates, courses, knowledge that I could gather for lesser money and time to work on that switch over? I’m 33, and don’t know if I have the time to dedicate to another degree. My TC right now is about 100k so I would like to stay ≥ that range and break into the industry. Dream Companies: Activision; Microsoft; Apple; Tesla; Bethesda; Pokémon; NFL; NHL; MLB. Location: Texas, or Remote/Travel Thanks in advance. #gaming #business #sportsmediatech #careerbuilder

I would look into companies like TTD. Advertising and Technology.

Good luck my friend!

Both of you could take a look at AWS leaning series. They're doing a hiring drive right now where they'll teach Aws technologies to people and offer jobs as cloud support engineers or associates to those who are interested. Should be easy to look up on LinkedIn.

I’d suggest you go into tech but don’t go into gaming industry unless you hate yourself. If you’re looking for making your life miserable, depressed, being in distress all the time, loosing hair and erection then absolutely go into gaming industry.

Greystar Pheenyx OP Nov 12, 2021

Hahaha, good news is I can’t loose an erection if I don’t have it. But, I will say I definitely don’t want to loose these illustrious curls.

It looks like you can be a product manager. Most tech companies need a product manager and I think your experience is a good fit for that. And yes, maybe not the gaming industry. It’s tough.

Maybe look into a business analyst role.. may need to pick up a coding language like sql or Python which you can do on data camp but with your business background, that might be a good route for you.

Check out Data Science 4 All. I finished in august and it’s a free training program ( all remote). It helped me land my first data analyst role.. my background was in sales before this.

Greystar Pheenyx OP Nov 12, 2021

Amazing I am going to check that out! Thank you!

Bro!! Earlier this year I made a switch from a long term real estate development career to a job a tech startup where I do and learn a lot more technical stuff in addition to managing a few internal processes. We are even almost the same age. If you are interested in being in the tech industry, I'd assume there is something you've done in the past that is relevant to the roles you are pursuing whether it was for work and in your spare time. List it on your resume and tailor it to the positions you are applying to. Also do some online trainings and Certifications to acquire basic skills and qualifications your are expected to have in tech. Good luck!

Greystar Pheenyx OP Nov 12, 2021

Thank you! Yes, since I was 10 I have built PCs and worked with tech, up to and including audio production for games. I am definitely looking into all aspects while I still have access to the Full Sail University library of goodies.

What is your marketing experience like ? Is it digital marketing/advertising? Also what kinda companies have you worked for - B2C or B2B ? These are different types of roles you can target a) If you have B2B marketing/sales experience - aim for Solutions Architect/Relationship Manager/Pre-Sales kinda roles in Cloud orgs of MS, Amazon, Google b) if you good experience in Digital Marketing and consumer - you can aim for e-commerce companies in business/marketing roles.

Greystar Pheenyx OP Nov 12, 2021

Thank you for asking I have done both B2B and B2C, but mainly B2C. Thank you for the hints!
