Why do people buy electric vehicles? EVs clearly introduce one complexity - charging it, no matter what you say, it's a fact that a gas vehicle doesn't require gas planning, while you need to plan for charging for EV. So what do electric owners win? Acceleration and lack of oil changes once in 6-12 months?
Much easier if you can charge at home overnight rather than going to gas station. If you forget, there are always L3 chargers
Yeah, also most EV's automatically plan the charging stops for you on trips. The place where EVs are less useful is in cities if you don't have a place to park with a charger, oddly enough. Even most BFE places I've been have a charger in a free parking area (might be slow), but cities you gotta find a garage and hope the chargers are available.
Charging at home is way more convenient than going to gas stations. For longer trips, I just use my wife's car (gas)
washington state $.10-.11 per kwh... costs like $7 to fill your battery at home.
Interestingly, and this depends on your circumstances and driving patterns, charging planning/complexity with home charging is actually way less for me than a gas car. My typical drive each day is about 15 miles each way, pretty local. I actually don't go by a gas station. There is one there, at one end but it's a short bit out of the way. In an electric car with home charging I leave with a "full tank" every day. On the few days I need to go somewhere further away, which for me is usually < 80 miles round trip, I'm still covered. When I had a gas car I was always thinking about... hey today I need to go out of my way to get gas because I I'm running out, or tomorrow I know I'll drive a lot. Yeah, if you don't have home charging, that equation is totally different, but so long as you do, it turns into something that you never need to think about or worry about unless you are doing some really long trip > than your car's range.
it usually come out even… electricity at home cost less but initial installation may take years to recover with gas saving. EV has lower maintenance but need to change tires more frequent… read some breakdown cost of all type and hybrid probably is as good if not slightly better than EV
No spark plugs , radiator , Engine air filter , and you get to pretend you are saving the planet
its other way around. For ICE, you need to plan to stop at a gas station. For EV you just charge at home overnight
What if you don't have a charger at home
then you are too poor for ev ev are qol improvement for rich ppl
EV is great as the 2nd+ car in the family. I wouldn’t recommend anyone to have only the one EV - and this is coming from someone @GM.
Both pros and cons Ev subsidy makes it cheaper EVs tend to have more consumer facing tech EVs are cheaper to run despite charging it's cheaper per mile Lower maintenance cost Cons Charging for road trips Upfront cost But using myself as an example I think 95% of my usage is <50 miles so charging issues Don't show up
On the topic of complexity, gas powered vehicles are much more mechanically complicated with thousands of additional parts and systems.
How does it impact the end user?
Less maintentance costs.
