Snorkeling in so cal?
How is it in San Diego? OC? How is it in Catalina island? Compared to Hawaii? Fish diversity, water clarity, coldness (Catalina) I've been googling and it's not very helpful. Thanks!

go to Hawaii. Cali is cold water. Hawaii is like swimming in piss. so nice
I've snorkeled in Catalina in the Marine reserve near Avalon and also some spots on the other side of the island in two harbors. it's ok but nothing like Hawaii and you'll want a 3.2 wetsuit even in the summer. I've also snorkeled at la Jolla come in San Diego. there is some giribaldi but not much else. you'll want a wetsuit too
Snorkel at Catalina at night time. It's pretty awesome. There's some bioilluminescence as well.

I never heard of anyone snorkeling in so cal, other than at Catalina. I snorkeled there once, but only because I was already there for another reason. Not worth a trip. The water is cold. 65F or less. Compared to Hawaii so cal is a zero.
