Here are three stats about how your money is increasingly useless after the most recent inflation report
I took gmat test today and did not do well. After months of prep, got 590 score. Prep itself was a brain drain! Always wanted to do MBA in a good university in the US, but have lost all motivation after seeing my score! One part of my brain is beating me up, while the other says “you saved $200k!, accept and move on! There are other better things to do in life!” 😥😓😢😣 YoE: 10yrs Blind tax: $250K
Any specific reason you’re looking to get a MBA?
I’m more of a technical person. Want to up-skill on the business side.. I do believe MBA would help me
Is getting a MBA more of a personal achievement to you? I personally don’t think you need a MBA degree to get a significant TC increase and I don’t feel that it would open a significant amount of doors/opportunities given that you have 10 YOE + technical. Why not go for EM or some management position if you want to focus more on business/people skills? What type of business side are you referring to?
My friend got MBA at Pittsburgh University and then got a decent job. If you want to focus on Ivy League, then one tip for GMAT is to solve as many tests as you can do rather than reading materials or watching videos. If you have enough background, then solve OG twice and look at their solutions after checking answers. Only work on relevant materials.
Sorry i was going to say that my friend score was 610. Similar to yours but he got the offer. And you have enough experience. Ivy League does not look at scores but whole package. It is holistic evaluation. Try to have great SOP and reference letters. I am sure you can get an offer from top tier.
And I am not native speaker. I prepared by myself just one month and got 680. If you want, I can share how I studied. But i am sure there are lots of smart people with higher scores here. They can be helpful too.
Verbal? Quant? Are you native speaker?
Quant was ok but I made few silly mistakes while reading the Q! And this had domino effect on following Qs. My problem has always been verbal.. especially reading comprehension! :( No, am not native speaker
Yeah I feel you. Verbal is tough. I scored 86 percentile in quant, 40 percentile in verbal. Leaving me at 640. This was after a month of Verbal-only study. Keep studyiny verbal, you can improve a lot. But I don't think you will get into any top programs if your first attempt is that low
Took mine 3 times, 600>>670>>690 Got into a very good mba with that
And got pip'd eventually?
Did you take the tests back to back? Or with breaks?
Why do an MBA after 10 YOE?
Exactly, why bother. You could probably learn more on youtube
Thank you. Am already in product manager role. I believe MBA is life changing experience to some extent. But I do see your point!
Shouldn’t you be able to get an exemption on GRE because of Exp?
TBH, I have never seen that universities exempt because of work experience, BUT because of COVID i saw some of them do not consider GRE/GMAT for evaluation. OP still has a great chance
I was looking at Online MBA and they did have GRE/GMAT exemption from quite a few universities including UW and Berkeley
You have to take it a couple of times. You likely went to fast to begin with, made some early errors and got stuck on the lower score track. Take a gmat class, take it again.
Thank you. I had taken Manhattan course previously few years ago.. and this was my second attempt
Did you score better or worse this time?
Lol.. most mba's are so useless with their course work. All they do is pmp certification and become project managers.. some product managers.. just apply for product manager jobs instead.
What's a good score? What tier university will you get with this score?
I was hoping around 670+ Was looking for top 5 weekend/ part time mba courses
I was beating myself up for a 720 score. I was shooting for a 730-740 score and turns out the majority of my class were in the 650 range and after I started my MBA, the score was useless. My advice would be to give it another shot and work on a balanced application. The GMAT score is one part of the whole package.
