I’m a man in mid 30s. I understand that patting on a shoulder while meeting is a sign of establishing dominance. See it with the politicians, world presidents meetings etc they’re all hugging and patting. The person patting assuming a more caring (or a senior) stance. I do not like this kind of body language. I see it all the time and even more so as I move along with more established/ sernior folks. Has anyone felt this before ? How do you handle it ? I see some of my old friends do it too. I do it too but I just did it out of spite and hate hate this gesture of patronization. Am I over thinking it ?
You also put your hand on their shoulder then go for a hug
Personally I’d go with “I’m autistic, please don’t touch me”
Lol.. 🤣🤣 That's an insensitive comment, though!
Dr. Shawn Murphy left the chat!
Ruffle their hair a little and give them the “nice job, bud”
More like nice job, dawg!
Chief.
Make an awkward shrug publicly. Nothing's more powerful than showing someone that they breached some boundaries.
Very context dependent. It could be asserting the Dominance. If you do not want to accept the authority, you have to balance it by patting it back. If you cannot, its clear they are the dominant.
I establish dominance by peeing on all fire hydrants and trees near the office. Works really well as no one else has come around to pee on my pee.
Including your TC with your post is how you establish dominance.
Second only to keeping watchful eyes for missing TCs
You know it.
Obnoxiously do it back to them. Hopefully they get the point.
came here to say it
If someone does that the only way to counter is to whip it out.

Whip out your TC
