There have been lots of negative reviews about management. What happened to 2023 ipo? Is Dataminr worth joining now? What is your future?
I wonder what happened to them post Twitter acquisition. That’s their main source
True the firehouse... I'm sure it got pricey af. Also, likely to be less activity on the platform soon.
It is not worth joining now. Especially if you personally are planning to come from Meta. No news on IPO. Rumors are that an acquisition is more likely. Reviews of management are accurate.
Some people have been worried about another round of layoffs happening like the start of this year. Time will tell. We've got cash and are floating on it indefinitely to try not to IPO at less than what people paid for shares in whatever the last private equity round was, so focus has been on saving money everywhere. People got more RSUs instead of raises this year. Huge shift from when I joined. Higher-ups were talking about building the plane as we fly it, and how it's always good to have too much to do. Empty checks for engineers, move fast no matter the cost and IPO in a booming market. Now that we missed it our sins have caught up to us. Our spend is massive, my team's technical debt is too. We can save a ton but we're still yanked around to priority projects often. I don't know enough about what makes a good executive team. I don't really care. I just think we need to keep engineers around and stop giving them things to do. We can sort a lot out on our own and finally document shit properly to move forward quickly in the future. Probably save a third of our cloud spend too.
Last time CEO said he would like to IPO when the economy is better. I know someone who got some money on RSUs from his employer being acquired so I hope that happens if the IPO isn’t going to make it. At least they aren’t paper then you know.
How does RSU vesting work? Quarterly? Any nuances since it's private still?
Mine vest quarterly over couple years’ span. Never worked at a public company so not sure if there’s any differences.
