Any thoughts on Ethereum? Not a lot of talk about it as much as Bitcoin but some say it could surpass the value of bitcoin in less than a decade.
Ethereum has a faster block verification, it takes about 17 seconds to verify a transaction as opposed to Bitcoin's ~10 minutes. Another big point going for Ethereum is Solidity, which is the programming language you can use to script over transactions. The downside though is that Ethereum has a larger surface area for attacks (due to its Turing completedness), which explains the big dip in prices in the past year, all of them coincide with major DDoS attacks. All in all though I am really bullish on Ethereum's future, it has a great community of developers around it, and there are many interesting startups attempting to use Ethereum's smart contracts to do some really neat things.
The price of Ethereum has crashed from $14 to a low of $6.58 just in the past 2 months. I would say as a platform it has a shot, but as an investment vehicle it's rubish.
Over complex. Look at the number of hard forks they had to go through... Definitely not a bitcoin competitor, possibly à private blockchain competitor. Governance problem.
Guys.... Ethereum!!!!
a16z had a good podcast on this topic a while ago. At surface it looks promising with easier API, but the jury is still out on whether it will get the network effects that Bitcoin enjoys.
