Why do you want to work in defense as an IC?
Defense doesn't pay well in general, so that offer is decent. I've worked at RTX previously and some orgs did profit sharing + a decent min. % raise. Still a far cry from other companies but the job is generally low stress and 9/80 schedule was great. YMMV though I left right when they merged with united
Wow these defense contractors are cheap. The defense budget went up $25B this year alone. Who is siphoning off the cash?
These places have a lot of overhead. The tech talent isn’t what sells, it’s the nontechnical engineers who present to the gov with buzzwords.
Contractors compete and bid for DoD work, so the margins are lower and pay isn’t going to be super high.
If it helps, that’s basically what I make with a non-Cs degree and the same YOE. LCOL area though.
Take it for now but keep trying some other defense co's in the area. You could be clearing 100k with 3 yeo in NoVa.
Hey I’m trying to get an entry-level job at Northrop, could you help me out with a referral?
You might be able to ask for more. I’m also p2 100k

It’s only marginally better than what you already have. I’d negotiate aggressively and be prepared to walk away. You can make way more than 90k on the west coast if you’re willing to move.
