Looking for some updated info on the TikTok SG office. Most of the threads I find when I search are older than 2 years or more and are concerned with the US office. I am not interested in the US office. Can some SG TikTokers chime in? I’ve seen the following rumours / points: 1. Terrible WLB: 996 or 997 culture. 2. Brutal pip culture: likely to get fired if you aren’t in the top 10% of an “impact” delivering team. 3. Discrimination: Code comments are in mandarin. Managers favour mandarin speakers. Likely to get fired (through pip) because you’re not Chinese. 4. Do they sponsor EP? 5. I’ve seen “it depends on the team” often. So which teams have good WLB? And which ones should be avoided like the plague? 6. Which languages are mainly used? Is C++ and Python used at TikTok? And are they good teams (see point 5). I value WLB very highly. I probably won’t apply since I’ve seen horror stories, but curious nonetheless. Edit: TC:130K SGD #singapore #tiktok #tech
I have been here for 2 years and I had almost the exact questions as you before joining. Let me answer them 1 by 1 1. Singapore office people do not do 996 or 997. The office is MOSTLY empty by 6:30 or 7. Having said that, there are days when people have to stay back longer but I think that happens at every place. 2. No thats not true. I haven't seen people being piped. Ofcourse if someone is really slacking off then maybe, 3. No discrimination for sure. 4. Yes 5. Typically, in any company, teams working on P0 or P1 services tend to have more workload and higher urgency. Same is here. I would say check with your HM and see. If your service is P2 or so on then WLB should not be an issue. Also for P0 and P1 services, mostly the WLB outside of China is okay unless you have to interact with people in different timezones 6. Java, Golang, Python Hope this helps!
Many thanks for your detailed reply! This is the exact info I was looking for. I haven’t applied yet. I just see TikTok spamming job postings with high salaries on LinkedIn and Nodeflair so I was curious. I’ll keep all this in mind if I decide to apply in the future. Thanks a lot. :)
If you don't know Chinese it'll be quite difficult, you may get by but it'll take a lot of extra effort to understand and communicate. Most managers and leads are Chinese and work life balance is not a priority to them at all.

Why would you want to move from Motional to Tiktok? I thought the tech/problem that you’re working with is bleeding edge?
Just doing some research in case things don’t pan out for Motional. The future is a bit uncertain right now.
