I did six months in 2016 for a non-violent felony. Upon my release I knew I wanted to work in technology, specifically a software company. My ultimate goal is to become a software engineer but while I level up that part of my life I want to join a company in a technical/customer support role to start because I am capable and have the necessary skills. I got particularly far last month with Checkr, I did multiple interviews, a technical interview, and was a finalist. Unfortunately it did not pan out but I have not given up, I will never give up. My family needs me to be more and I know I can bring a whole lot of value to the right company. Anybody here work for a company that would give me a shot? I have resume and linkedin handy. I applied at a couple of roles since my last failure, just last night I applied to Meta.

Become a hacker
One day I will be a software engineer.

Try going the consulting company route. Join a company that provides engineers to big firms like Msft and others.
Only six months for robbing a bank? Murica ๐บ๐ธ
I believe America tends to have longer jail time for this sort of thing than other countries. So it genuinely may have been non-violent. However if someone has โbank robberโ on their background check Iโd just hire some desperate new grad instead. Itโs a deal breaker.
My family, friends, and past co-workers really went to bat for me with letters and public pleas. I also had a great public defender who saw that I had a lot to still offer upon my release. I truly am sorry for what I did. I was in a very difficult and strange time in my life. I made mistake and I paid for it. I have lived out my life since then working and studying to be better for my family.
Good luck, hopefully whatever brought you to do that is behind you now. You do have a difficult path ahead, but know that not ALL companies will do a background check, or at least you might be able to convince HR you're OK This country is very unforgiving of felons, as I'm sure you don't need a Blind commentator to point out
I was homeless, jobless, and had a baby on the way. I know it's not a good justification but just wanted to provide some context.
Yeah I assumed you had your reasons. I worked in the service industry for a long time, lot of felons there many more honest than most anyone I've ever met in the corporate world. Hopefully that's all gotten better for you Wish I could help more than with just platitudes
Troll lol ๐
No, I am afraid not.
Then congratulations for journey from there to Blind. Congratulations ๐พ
Presumably it's off your record after another year right?
Expungement is a real possibility but I need a job now so I am still trying every day.
@OP is employment a requirement for expungement?

Last nights application
Robbing a bank and then applying to a company that focuses on background checks may not have been the best plan ๐
checkr specifically hires felons
They reached out to me because of my background. I got beat out by someone with a bit more experience, I was encouraged to apply again in time when the role opens up again.
