Apple ICT4 onsite Vancouver - AR/VR. ~$375k CAD final. (180 base, 100 sign-on, 686 rsu) Meta E5 remote - Reality Labs. Currently negotiating. Initial offer was ~$305 CAD (174 base, 450 rsu, 15% perf. bonus). I told them my Apple offer. The recruiter now wants my expected salary which will then go to comp team. The Apple office is a 17 minute walk from my apartment. Not a very nice walk mind you, but I'm hardly in a position to complain. Do people here have thoughts? I *think* Meta is the better one here if I can get > $340k which I can't imagine is difficult. Remote, ease of changing teams, "prestige", etc. I've stockpiled enough from amzn that the COL in Vancouver doesn't affect me too much. #swe
I feel apple has more prestige, although meta stock this low seems like a good bet
Apple has better refreshers. You can expect to get $100k cad worth of stocks every year.
How were the interviews?
also interested to know some details
Meta : 2 coding, 2 system design, 1 behavioral + phonescreen. Quite a tough interview. I've looked at some of the interviewers and managers on Linkedin and their pedigree seems very high, possibly the best I've encountered actually. One coding was straightforward Leetcode easy + medium. I got them both pretty quickly. Other coding was a tricky C++ problem 100% NOT in Leetcode that sort of panicked me when I first saw it. I calmed down and got it completed good but not great. The recruiter called that out but said I had very strong perf in the other interviews. One system design was hardcore graphics related and gave me a great opportunity to show off everything I know about GPUs. At the end it was almost a pure knowledge dump. Thankfully I had been studying a lot in the months prior. The other system design was very generic and didn't really require any specialized knowledge. Lot of Excalidraw and API design. Behavioral was very important and underrated I think. Interviewer complimented me afterwards. My recruiter says that Meta downlevels from E5 -> E4 90% of the time. This is my third shot here and the first time passing. Before getting an offer I had to go into team matching and spoke to several managers. Also Meta HR is absolutely peerless, the best I've ever dealt with and its not even close. Super friendly and professional.
Thanks for replying!
@gcgx22 which offer did you accept ?
Really want to know which AR team is here in Vancouver!!! I did not know Vancouver has Apple AR team
Out of curiosity, what is your background and what Tech Stacks you worked on which made you eligible for these AR/VR positions?
Many years at big game studios like EA as a graphics programmer. Last 2.5 years at Amazon doing graphics on Lumberyard. Amazon was nitro fuel to the resume. Was asked to interview at E5 level instead of E4 or Microsoft Principal instead of Senior for instance.
nice. thanks for explaining.
