I feel like Musk is just trying to bring China's work ethic to rest of the world. The whole "sleeping in the office" shtick is kind of picking up steam. Tesla, spacex and now twitter all have bad wlb. I personally think government needs to establish a "max hours in a day an employee can work" regulation. All the small businesses around us has such a regulation with times by which they HAVE to close. I feel like it's time to introduce something similar in corporate. "Quiet time from 8PM to 8am". May be keep it dynamic and have the company establish quiet hours. My concern is there seems to be enough people out there who wouldn't mind the around the clock work hours. They eventually burn out and learn their lesson but are replaced by a fresh batch. It can keep going on and on for a while.
You really asking the people that will be the 996 workers?
Those same people also elect the government representatives. So why not? It seems like all CEOs are behind Musk openly or behind closed doors. So the workers will have to unite to break this grip, else it won't work out for us. Amazon got so much criticism from people that they increased the pay so much that they are the best offer in the market most of the time. They are also better than many FANG in remote and hybrid work policy till now. If something needs change, we have to rally behind it else be prepared with whatever plan you have. Elon might want to make an empire, I just want a condo near trader joes. I can be happy with that.
Why do you want to stop others from working more? Because then you'll have to work more too?? USA is all about freedom, work more if you want or less if you want. Don't stop others just to hinder competition, that's a lame ass loser mindset
I don't think you understand how much complicated some of these systems can get Wayfair. Also, almost all businesses have a closing hour mandated by gov. Why not corporate? Even stock market has a closing bell lets just keep it open 24×7 then. May be you don't care about wlb and that's OK. I want to hear what others feel about it.
I actually don't work hard. As little as I can get away with. But I don't want to stop others who wish to work hard and do better.
996 is outdated, last i heard it became lay-flat or let-rot
Would just quiet quit
I mean I sure hope not but I’d do that before I see my pay get cut in half 🫠. I’m greedy. Reality is that this field cares about your production. There’s diminishing returns to working crazy long hours. Some of thing are negligible but sometimes things that should take 30 minutes take 4 hours because you can’t focus.
Agree with you. The comments to your post are a bit depressing.
I wouldn't call it depressing. Most folks even in tech think engineers at big tech "don't do anything". It's so evident with mockery being made out of meta, Twitter, Google perks. Slowly I am seeing hiring increase in India for big tech. Cheaper engineers who have lower wlb expectations. All these people pretending to be "hard workers" are going to get a rude awakening the day they realize that.
Dude, that’s what unions are for.
I bet Elon and Jack Ma cuddled together on a factory floor in China at least one time.
A lot of ppl fail to mention the 996s only have 5-6 hours full production and is just a bad use of time. How about saving the 2 hours lunch and nap time, 1 hour of dinner time and getting off work 3 hours early? I'm
Lololol.
