I feel like more money should go into 1) Space exploration 2) Nuclear Energy (Fusion) research
Space exploration, don't know how much will that help. But fusion research, YES. Essentially most problems faced by mankind will be solved by virtually free supply of energy. Water crisis can be solved by purifying sea water into fresh water using RO membrane technologies which are very energy intensive. People shouldn't have to pay for electricity bill, fuel will be free. Economies will grow with one less constraint..
VMware is right- money is great but execution beats all.
Very predictably a committee will be formed to identify which areas need research. 4 years and twice the original cost ($500 billion) later, they will come to the conclusion they need another 4 years and another half a trillion dollars to fully understand the issue. Then the next government will come and the story repeats. It's happened way too many times under different administrations.
So what should he spend it on? Useless wars in middle east? It's better to invest in people and constructive causes which might help the future generations have a better life. Do not forget that the internet came from a federally funded research agency. This very app that you are reading on wouldn't have been possible if some President in the 50s and 60s had not invested in R&D institutes like Darpa.
I apologize if my tone sounds a bit hostile. Don't mean it it that way
