CVP “addresses” MSFT comp

The CVP of my org recently “addressed” the topic of MSFT’s low compensation relative to the rest of the industry: Given how Microsoft pays, why would I recommend this organization to the best developers that I know? In all our of listening channels from the All-Team Q&A to Signals, to Yammer and Satya’s Townhall we’ve received questions on our compensation. I’ll let the SLT address the broader questions. Regardless of the framing around pay, I answer this question the same way: At Microsoft and in I get to work with incredible people, on emerging technology, at unmatched scale. I’m proud of the culture transformation Microsoft has gone through in the last eight years and I’m confident we’ll continue to evolve given the space we make for learning and how we’ve adopted principles of transparency and growth. What really energizes me is the opportunity I have every day to apply creativity to problem solving whether it’s with our scale and COGS, modernizing our stack, enabling the next level of personalization in productivity experiences, or how to make this a more inclusive place to work. I recommend Microsoft as an organization because we have such a wealth of technical career opportunities across tiny edge and ubiquitous clouds to developer platforms and productivity tools that truly enables people to achieve more. I’m still here nearly 30 years later because on top of that we’ve demonstrated a commitment to not just what we deliver but how we work. On our team, we’re not just looking for the best developers. We’re looking for the best developers who also embody customer focus, who led with collaboration and curiosity, who embrace failure as learning and champion experimentation working towards innovation. I recommend our organization because it’s at the center of Microsoft strategy, on the next wave of emerging technology, and it’s a great place to work. And critically, at times when it’s not a great place to work, we’re empowered to change it. Take some time to reflect on your own answer. Why would you recommend this organization to the engineers that you know? What’s your best pitch to a recent grad or someone in the industry looking? What do you say if a family member asks, why do you like working at Microsoft and what do you even do there? (As my family has asked me many times). We’re hiring. TC: 290.5k for 2021

What a piece of absolute cringe

Stripe hayJL May 14, 2022

How come you could hire the BEST talents with a bunch of additional requirements by giving the 60% pay comparing to the industry? This sounds joke to me. It’s easy to bullshit like this as a CVP who makes $x millions per year.
