Hello, Would anyone be able to provide any insight as to what the Bioinformatics Software Engineer interview process is like at Illumina? I recently went through their HackerRank OA and am now scheduling an interview with the hiring manager. Never had an initial call with the recruiter so I'm not really sure what to expect. Would the HM round be behavioural or technical? If technical, how much is on LC style DSA problems and how much are on the bioinformatics side (like Rosalind problems)? Are there any further rounds afterwards? Thank you so much in advance! 125, 2 #illumina

For anyone looking at this in the future, I just finished the HM round. Experience was really weird, no behavioral questions and no coding questions. Just got quizzed on seemingly everything under the sun from OOP to cloud infra to specific Linux commands (???) to bioinformatics workflows. I think there are coding rounds later if I pass this round, though I don't think I did very well. Overall very frustrating. I had no idea what to expect and no clarity on the process whatsoever. The recruiter just slapped me with the OA then scheduled me for the HM round with barely any sort of communication. maybe i am just a leetcode monkey :(
It’s not you. It’s illumina. Trust me. There are no standard procedures - so it’s highly dependent on the group. Sounds like you interviewed with a shit group
Thanks for the follow up. I plan on trying to apply for SWE positions here in the future. I guess we just gotta study everything there is to know then...
