I got an offer from Lyft recently. I currently live in Seattle but I work full time remote. I’m planning on accepting the Lyft offer, but I’m wondering if there’s room to negotiate for more. I have a Meta onsite scheduled next week but I’m planning to cancel it. Meta would pay more, but based off my interview experience and current wlb, I think Lyft would be a much better fit for me. In my current job I’m scheduled to get my bonus this April, but I’d have to start at Lyft before then. So I’d be giving up ~$40k. Is foregoing Meta’s onsite & giving up my bonus enough firepower to negotiate for more money? My fear is that they’d rescind the offer for whatever reason. 7 YOE ##engineering #swe #lyft #offer
They’ll give you a sign on if you share you’re forgoing your bonus. Very standard practice
See if you can negotiate a sign-on bonus to cover what you’d be missing at Lyft. Could always see if they’ll stall on your start date until April too, but that’s riskier.
Is Lyft remote first?
Damn that base for Lyft is lowball for senior
Damn isn’t that a really low offer for senior SWE for HCOL?
I’m not sure. Looking at levels.fyi it seems like Lyft’s senior comp in Seattle floats around $285k-$310k. It looks like it’s dropped a lot over the past 2 or 3 years.
It’s a dying company what do you expect
Not terrible for Seattle. Low base.
Wow , would have thought Lyft senior was high $400Ks
Not anymore. It used to be 360-500k without appreciation. Now it’s 300-350k.
Go for the brand name on resume and the senior level. Don't know how long Lyft will last - 18 months, 2 years - and it will be an unstable ride with more layoffs but it's a good name to have on your resume. The base is extremely low for E5 and the stock might not mean anything if the company goes bankrupt or gets bought. But yeah, go there to improve your skills and be prepared to jump somewhere better in the future.
If company gets bought the shares will be worth more than they are now, companies are almost bought with a premium. If it goes bankrupt though … Honestly Uber should have an interest in keeping Lyft alive. Otherwise it will be an antitrust target.
Try for Mera.
Lyft is still alive?
