I'm just curious why Braintree never took off 🚀. It was heavily advertised back in 2013-15 and I thought their one line of code integration made sense. Could someone explain to me how Plaid and Stripe were able to conquer this territory? Or does Plaid and Stripe provide a slightly different service?
Braintree currently has a massive share of the market and is one of the largest competitors in the space. Hasn’t gone anywhere. PayPal has just done a complete shit job at advertising it in the last 2 years.
It's still around and is one of Stripe's biggest competitors.
What is Braintree?
I think it's still a strong player. Blind ppl only care about high tc companies lol. So I don't think it's talked about much here
Braintree still drives more of the enterprise revenue for PayPal and it has more features than core PayPal offerings. Braintree developer experience is also still way better than PayPal. Braintree is the only reason stripe hasn’t eaten PayPal in that space completely. The reason you think it didn’t go anywhere is because PayPal doesn’t publish analytics and thats because the VPs and sr directors just do all their business on slide decks and don’t even ask for the right metrics. They keep investing in trying to build paypal’s offering better but we still have paypal rest apis, nvp soap and braintree and even the landing funnel keeps directing people randomly and then they realize non of the three are complete solutions.
🤫 @PP You're letting the cat out of the bag!!!
I integrated it with our platform around that time, it sucked. Stripe having good support, customer service and software is why they won is my guess.
