Welcome to 2024, a year that begins on a somber note as many large corporations, already responsible for laying off over 10,000 employees in 2023, continue to downsize. This situation deeply concerns me. In my view, when a company’s leadership fails, they should be the first to face consequences. The irony is not lost on me that hiring in these big corporations is notoriously rigorous, involving multiple rounds of interviews and stringent budgetary considerations. It’s a process designed for efficiency, ostensibly making overhiring a rarity. Yet, here we are, with news of these very companies laying off staff, citing overhiring and a need for efficiency. This rhetoric seems disingenuous to me. In light of this, I’m surprised that there hasn’t been a stronger call for accountability at the top levels. Why hasn’t there been a movement to petition for the resignation of these CEOs? Given the widespread impact of these layoffs, such a petition would likely receive considerable support.#tech
A more cynical view is that the "over hiring" was not unplanned. They had initiatives that needed more people temporarily, or just decided they no longer needed a group/product/function. They treat people as "resources" they can add or subtract, not humans. It's part of the reason why people with psychopathic traits tend to do better in leadership.
Yeah, total see that , we talk about head count and butt on the seat 😀 during yearly planning meeting
The CEO reports to the shareholders. Shareholders are always excited about layoffs. They only care about short term gains
Firing CEO will be more exciting than firing few hundred employees multiple time through out 2 year time frame
your post shows how naive and an NPC you really are. am sure you diligently vote every 4 years too. all these layoffs are all orchestrated and you can pick on these companies but if i ask you how money "really" works in the world, you will not be able to anser that question. too much ignorance in the world and you here complaining about layoffs. when these companies doubled their workforce in 2020-2021, where were you then? when they were handing jobs to everyone and their mama, even retired folks came out of retirement. taxi driver became a sales engineer after some 1 week bootcamp on the internet, people faking resumes and HR refusing to truly verify anything. ppl lie on education and work history and getting jobs left and right. but now they laying off and big tech is the issue. you are the issue. your ignorance and billions of other humans are the issue. when you guys are ready to wake up to this orchestrated society then let me know. till then you folks are all just salves to the matrix and your ranting and venting will not solve a thing.
lol you seem high on life and have big dck complex. Which confirm you have a smaller dck. you are abusing and calling everyone stupid and miserable. YOU NEED HELP AND SELF AWARENESS. That condescending tone won’t help you personally or professionally.
Ok I get your point on accountability, but do you resign when you take a calculated risk that ended up not coming as expected? I'm not here to suck balls, don't get me wrong, but executives have incentive to hire when growth is in horizons and downsize when it isn't, it's literally part of their job... no one will resign, and also I doubt they'll feel bad about it for more than a day. I am strongly considering take a financial hit and start a business myself, I hate the corporate world for reasons like the above...
I hear you and I understand what you are saying. Totally agree with you on that. But if a manager or leader promise something to his management and they don’t deliver, they do get fire or let go. It’s surprising to me the whole world/media are seeing and totally ignoring that. I know friends and folks who is on the other side of this, this is truly traumatising experience. Just reading about it everyday makes me pessimistic about the tech/world etc.
