Leaving Amazon (Software Engineer, L6) to join Meta (E5) next month. What is the most critical aspect as a software engineer required to succeed at Meta? TC: 530K #meta
dont ask for permission. push code like crazy. run experiments. meta has very little red tape unlike amazon. don’t write tests for throwaway experiments. tests come after your feature is proven to work
Ugh I wish Amazon was more like this, but then again we didn’t have a Cambridge Analytics moment 🤷🏼♂️
Market your work well.
Heres a tip, be happy you are leaving Amazon, I sure was
As ic5, try to get as much context as you can so you can create scope for yourself and jr engs. After the initial ramp up, expectations will be high.
Thanks for your comment. Any tips on getting context in a timely manner?
Sorry crazy week. I suggest setting up weekly 1:1 with team members during ramp up. Work on your ramp up project and pay attention to pain points during team meetings or any eng sync. Discuss early with EM about opportunities you want to explore or should explore after ramp up. Bring some of the pain points you think could be improved and propose solutions to the EM. Do not expect your manager to assign projects or work at meta.
You got down leveled, even if higher TC. That actually makes it a little bit easier for you to transition. Cooperation and likability are big at Meta. Not exactly the qualities that made you successful at Amazon.
don’t think so. amazon l6 maps to meta e5
Are you interested in infra or product? There’s large differences based on what you work on.
OP, what’s the TC split and yoe?
YOE?
Congrats! What’s the New TC?
