Got an offer from Microsoft. 20 years of industry experience, 13 years of PM experience. Please suggest if there is any room for negotiation. Are there good examples of negotiating a level up? My interviews went really well with consistent positive feedback across the board. Current TC: ~450k (with 150k illiquid stock)
Way worse than your current TC
Work life balance and illiquid stock at bytedance are the factors I am considering
Depends on if the WLB gamble pays off. How close would you be to the profit margin for MS or stock price? Because if you're very close then yeah you're gonna have a bad time and even MS's legendary "WLB" won't save you. Granted I don't know how bad things are at ByteDance so I don't know if it'll be an improvement for you.
Instead of 100k sign on, I’d ask for 150k more RSU Btw 5 years ago I got 120rsu as L59 in seattle so L65 getting 120k in 2024 is major lowball
It's annual I guess
Yes. It's annual
Seems a good offer. I talked to a recruiter recently for L65 (SDE, Seattle loc, Azure org). She said 350k eq is a stretch (the final offer was 220k base + 350k eq + 20% target bonus (+ 100k sign on) = 351k) for that particular team/role . I've 12 years of experience.
Thats a major lowball even by MSFT standards. Might as well join Amazon if you are working for Azure cuz WLB would be similar. Can easily get 50% more as L6 with less scope/work.
Agree on wlb but don't think that's a lowball. Talked to multiple others (inside and outside Msft) post my convo with the recruiter and they all said ~350k is the standard L65 offer. I agree L6 will pay more (again what I heard that's ~35% more, not 50%, unless you are talking about exceptional cases)
Your bonus should be 20% not 10%
It’s a pretty good offer for Atlanta location and PM role. One thing you can ask for is to give extra 100k sign on for second year. I got that for 65 SWE role in 2022. DM me if you need more details.
Exactly...It's ATL not Seattle
Mine was not in Seattle either. It’s on west coast but remote role. COL is cheaper than ATL.
Wait wut. The sign on bonus is 100k?
How long did it take to actually get an interview/chat with a recruiter after applying?
Total process took about 2 months
top of band Microsoft offer
Seems low ball!! Base is good though
