I have ~3 yoe but I live in Iowa. Does this mean anything when applying to big companies like Airbnb/Google/FB in Seattle/Cali? Or would I basically be considered a new grad and start out as an L3 if I pass the interviews? I've been studying for about 2 months now but I am starting to get wary about it. Would I even be considered to interview as an L4? Please help! TC: 70k
It was easier to find a job in Seattle than in Iowa or Midwest in general when I decided to move. YMMV.
I used triplebyte to help me get past the door with a Midwest resume. It worked for me, I just took a job at Stripe.
I'll have to use triblebyte as well thank you for the suggestion!
Eh, the information they require you to show is extremely niche, and if there are one or two topics (especially system design) that you don't quite answer the way they want you to answer, then you lose. They don't even give you links to learn more about those resources, so it's another one of those guessing games.
Just gotta be good at the interview, they won't care where you came from for hiring. Most likely will be L3 with 3 YOE in Iowa. Don't share your current TC or else they will low-ball you.
You have to share your TC, otherwise the recruiter will say that you declined the rest of the process because you refused to proceed.
Actually it is illegal in California for a recruiter to ask your salary history.
Irrespective of the state if interviewer don't proceed with out TC info just say GTFO. Don't deal with idiots.
It would not matter and don't let yourself demotivate you because of that. Focus on your preparation instead. Also, make sure you understand what things to expect in the interviews here in the Bay area. And how to prepare. There are excellent resources online like leetcode, hackerrank, educative, interviewbit, GitHub system design primer etc. Again, don't think that. Where you come from rarely matters if your concepts and prep are solid. All the best.
Thank you so much I will do that!
