Hi all- recently completely my interview loop for a PM role in Non-Tech; while it was (from my perspective), a very positive experience; I received feedback from my recruiter that the team will not be moving forward with an offer. They indicated, however, that based on my interview loop, the team felt that I am a strong fit for Amazon, but they would like to find a role that is more closely aligned with my background and current experience. They ended the note expressing how this should be received as promising/positive news. Honestly, I’m very surprised that this process didn’t materialize with an offer, as I felt that not only was I a strong fit for the role in question, but the interview loop went very very well. My ask to the AMZ Blind community- is this typical feedback/canned language, or should I seriously consider this as an open prospect? Further, The recruiter explained that my information would be shared with ‘other teams’, and it was possible that I may not need to complete another interview loop throughout the process. Despite how discouraging this development is, there are other several other open roles that I feel I would be a good fit for- would it be fruitful to pursue? I’d so how should I proceed? Should I pass on the IDs to the Recruiter or have a current employee refer me first? I appreciate any feedback & insights that you can share!
Are you male and white? It is a known fact that they prefer “the good boys”. My advise, move on and don’t believe the BS template the recruiting team uses all the time.
Not really clear on what your inferring, the team that I met with was pretty diverse..
I think the recruiter is being genuine with you - to a point. They're being nice because they obviously liked you but they didn't like you enough to hire you. Their actions are speaking louder than their nice words right now. I'd just move on at this point. If you hate your current job than keep applying, if you don't hate it then just do what you do and re-apply down the road.
I certainly want to move on; just trying to gauge whether the invitation to apply to other roles that would be ‘a better fit’ are legitimate or just standard response
I don't think it's a standard response. If they don't like you or want you, it's usually pretty obvious by them either ghosting you or blatantly telling you that you can't apply for whatever the cool down period is.
Don't get too hung up on one company. Move on and find a place that appreciates your skills
Thank you- this outcome is particularly tough, as I was getting very excited..
It is an open door. If there are other jobs you’re interested in send them to the recruiter and see if you can get more insight into why they felt like you were not a fit for this role. Often there is some particular skill this role needs that they didn’t see but maybe other roles don’t need it. So try and get a feel for where they think you would fit. Stepping back, Amazon is a bit crazy though so looking elsewhere maybe your best option overall
Appreciate the feedback! There are certainly other similar opportunities that I’m interested in, and I’ll make sure to discuss that with the recruiter. The culture at my team in MSFT is pretty frenetic, so I’m sure I’ll fair well 😉
Means exactly what the recruiter said. They determined you're a fit for amazon, just not that particular role. They will try to find another role that is a fit and go from there (not guaranteed). If they wanted to fully reject you they would have.
Thank you , I appreciate the insight. I’ll circle back with the recruiter to see if she has any feedback that she can share ... it seems that based on the outcome- I’m speculating that I did well on the LPs but there was likely another candidate with more prodigious experience.
This is the exact same scenario that happened to me and I got eventually accepted! Have they used the word “recycle” if yes then congratulations you are very close to an offer!
Recycle? No, not that exact language. Would love to hear more about your experience, If you’d like to PM any insight/advice
I did the same thing. It's fine and get in touch with the recruiter with roles that might be a better fit and especially if you have another offer. Don't listen to these other people talking about race or you not being good enough. Lol they have no idea what they're talking about.
What is your take if the recruiter specified a specific role after a vote of Yes for a fit for amazon and split vote (no) for fit for role. Is that a good sign, instead of just “go fish”?
You are a good candidate, you are not the best candidate. Fit has nothing to do, they could not tell you where to apply and guarantee a job offer. keep improving and applying until you are the best candidate of a particular job.
Thanks Jim, appreciate the advice. Do you believe that the feedback from the recruiter was genuine?
Not at all. I gave you proof, they cannot tell you in what role you are a fit with a guaranteed offer.
