Microsoft offer (base,stocks, signon, bonus) 120k, 45k, 30k, 10% Amazon(AWS) offer 140k, 60k, 50k, 0% Amazon offer looks much better, but heard the wlb is bad and I always wanted to work at Microsoft atleast once in my lifetime. It’s like dream vs more money. I’m confused at this point. Would like to take your suggestions? YOE: 2 SDE I at both the companies
Is this for Bay area or Seattle? Is the sign on for Amazon split over 2 years or just for year 1?

If wlb is not terrible, AWS all the way. Being the highest end of L4 band, if not promoted in a year, there is a chance of pip. That's what Amazon folks have told me.

Was in a similar situation last month. If the aws offer is in seattle, that's about as high as they will go for sde1. Have you asked Microsoft for a match or higher level? I think its possible to get a higher level and thus higher comp if the title doesnt change. Also consider that Microsoft has ~9k 401k matching that vests immediately and espp so that's another ~10k per year (assuming you don't need it immediately). I think it would depend on the teams you are matched with. I personally would take Amazon if the Microsoft team is not azure.
I would lean towards Microsoft. Stocks vest evenly over 5 years, your salary has room to grow, better WLB.. stock refreshers aren't the best though

Congrats on the maxed out offer for sde1. This number will likely ask you to output at the level of sde 2 after the ramp up. If you dont perform, you will get piped but if you do, will be on a fast track for sde 2 promo
I'm in a similar situation with a maxed out sde1 offer. Is it really true to get piped if I don't perform at sde2 levels? I got the offer mostly with competing offers and negotiating so I only have 1 yoe coming in.
No, your immediate manager doesn’t generally take into account what you’re making, just your level and length in level. The rewards system bakes in accounting for your compa ratio so managers don’t need to deal with it.
I'd try and get Microsoft to match your offer.
Which team at Microsoft? It’s a huge company, your immediate team can range from great to ass-backwards.
