We just rolled it out. I don’t really get it, to be honest. I’m not really interested in socializing with my coworkers online. We had Yammer before and only a handful of people seemed to use it regularly... I see Workplace being about the same.
I think part of that is FB culture, which is a separate topic all together, but it becomes bearable once you cut out useless groups that don’t have anything to do with the job (looking at you, shitposting@).
Talk to your engineering teammates, and get candid feedback on Workplace. Roughly 4 out of 5 I brought this up to learn about their experience on the platform, it has been negative overall. No one says it is totally a useless platform, but so many issues prevail on Workplace that are counter-productive. That being said, Workplace chat is definitely way better than messenger.
True. On the other hand, I’ve been in companies that use email exclusively, and it was a mess too. So maybe the medium itself doesn’t really matter. Workplace does lend itself to make distraction easier, that I agree with.
It's nice, it practically killed emails... There are some basics that are missing like more advanced chat capabilities and long announcement posts are really hard to read. Overall it's an improvement, but it still got some way to go.
