With your culture being the way it is...how do you not notice a camera recording at the cafe an iPhone x? Also wtf a 4 year engineering veteran tells his daughter to upload it ? Lol just trying to understand this.

What exactly did they lose from the video? Phone is out already.

Everyone who works on or carries pre-release hardware knows the rules. And it can really suck. It’s no fun not getting to tell your family about all the cool work you’re doing. When I’ve had pre-release hardware at home I’ve had to tell my girlfriend that an innocent comment she made to her friend could lose me my job. Not a fun conversation.

This guy knew the rules and decided they didn’t apply to him and his daughter. It’s not fair to everyone who sweats secrecy day in and day out to just let it slide.

Literally this is one of the most important things that ALL Apple employees know you just don’t do! On day one (even retail employees) you sign confidentiality paperwork. This guy probably wanted to leave anyway, and his daughter wanted a social media following and public notoriety, so boom, two birds with one stone.

It doesn’t matter. The rules are there in black and white for anyone carrying unreleased hardware, even if it’s announced: no demos, no showing it to anyone.

And especially no videos or press

Apple policy is filming and taking pictures inside campus is not allowed. The phone also contained apps that were internal & codenames to future products were seen on screen.

I skimmed the video, didn’t notice 🤓👍🏻 In that case, they probably thought it was something official / sanctioned.

There’s no recording light on the iPhone. Who’s going to walk up to a child with a phone and tell her to turn that shit off. When I was there I only saw it in the main lobby where the guard next to the door might say something. He took her to the common areas. People upload videos all the time from the courtyard during beer bashes and what not. The problem is he did it on a device that had some internal software and codes visible. Yes he should have known better. I don’t think he gave a fuck. And he’s a hardware guy so I’m sure he’ll take his very valuable knowledge to the competitors, and his teammates will be down a key player. The only one that loses here is Apple.

Cafeteria was mostly empty. The people who did see probably thought it was sanctioned. Don’t know how the dad remotely thought it was okay.

That’s the first think they teach you on Orientation day. I am sorry to say but he deserves to let go. Apple takes secrecy very seriously. Our motto is “Surprise and Delight” and as long as you are an employee you should respect it .
