EPM position. 160k base/150 RSU over 4 yr/25k signon Moving from the east coast to cupertino area. Currently making about 180k salary with no state tax. Very nervous about the cost of living increase in the bay area. 2 young kids. What is your take on the offer? Is the move worth it? Considering the move for possible future opportunities.
Yoe? With 2 kids this offer is little tough to manage. Ask for $185k base and $200k rsu

Offer is low-ball. You can ask for numbers I mentioned or even more. Apple recruiters are little tough to deal with...they maybe rude at sometime ... just ignore their harsh words and stick to your numbers...they should ultimately agree. In this negotiation you may end up talking to 3 people.. recruiter, recruiter manager, recruiter sr manager..all will try to overpower you.... just be polite and don't budge.
You will struggle in the Bay Area with that salary. Especially with a family. Bay Area is also shit for family/kids.
Thank you for your feedback. What do you think would be reasonable for the area in terms of cost of living.
Apple is low on cash and higher on RSU's. I'd push for 200k + 50% more in RSU's. As others have said, be polite but firm about your counter-offer. That 160k will disappear very quickly in the Bay Area, especially with two kids. They're well aware of this fact, and will hopefully capitulate.
Don’t move for that offer
Its hard to say "what is a good equivalent salary" but the biggest cost increase is the housing. Assuming you can put 20% down for a usual 2-3 bedroom house, your monthly payment (including taxes) will be anywhere b/w 5K (far away) to 8K. Now compare that to your current mortgage and you can see how much more you need to make for a comparable living. It might very well be the case that your savings might reduce for 2-3 years...but long term it might work out.
Any condo/house dump in any San Jose neighborhood will be 7 figures.
Very low offer. Will be very tough, literally lower middle class

U will be a fool if u take this offer. And your life will be fucked hard in San Jose. Everything way too expensive.
