Has anybody on this app ever started this confirmed rumor? Just wondering
Haha
Ec2 actually just provisions azure instances behind the scenes
Yea this is dumb. They use all three cloud providers. They started with AWS then started migrating some of their workloads to Azure in a bake off with GCP. They recently started using GCP for their workloads too. Apple even approached Azure to build a few data centers for them, but were turned down when Apple refused to foot the bill and only wanted to pay on a consumption basis. Apple’s had huge issues with data centers in the past. There’s a great article in The Information talking about this.
Why did azure turn them down? Arent customers suppose to pay based on consumption.....Did Apple want datacenters all to themselves? What benefit would that provide?
Good question
Old news, they use multiple cloud vendors
Agree with @laksksl. A SaaS cloud service provider may use some other provider for IaaS or PaaS for that matter... Apple provides a service without necessarily owning the infrastructure service (could be counter intuitive but that’s a different discussion).
And Samsung makes their screens. At the scale Apple operates you’d be silly not to think there’s some cross pollination going on between all the major tech companies.
You have to get multi source for redundancy, and each vendor has multiple sources and geological regions for redundancy too
iCloud is not for massive computation like aws. So what is the big deal that Apple uses google product?
So? What’s the big deal here?
For Average Joe it would be like finding out that Samsung provides OLED displays for Apple.
