Atlassian is awesome, I'm relatively new here but haven't had an org this willing to invest in my learning and a non-startup not leave me feeling like a cog in a long time. They/we take "open company, no bullshit" very seriously.

Confluence Cloud is a major growth area, and part of the strategy for how we go from winning with services mainly for tech to all kinds of businesses.

Apple by contrast is a notoriously secretive company.

Not sure how much I can say publicly, but Confluence Cloud (here in MTV) and Confluence Server (still in Sydney) are separate products and diverged code bases these days. On the cloud side I know there are both major efforts on UX and features, but I am deep in the bowels of the performance and maintainability aspects. I am probably am not the best person to talk about features. On my side, there's a lot going on that's interesting as an engineer but which would only be interesting go a customer if you were unhappy with performance or if you're a server customer who wants to migrate but can't because of present scaling limits on the cloud side.

    Easy! Come to atlassian
People are amazing and you can learn a lot and have opportunities to grow. Last year we grew 200% (real number) with that kind of growth if you are good you have a lot of potential to sky rocket

How does the refresher program work there ? On performance review do they raise the base or allot Rsu? How many refreshers in worst case ?

Apple Pay is under eddy cue, in the Internet Software & Services org which is the best org, with high RSU refreshers. U should come to apple 🙂

Could you please tell me more about wlb. Heard lot of horror stories from people. That’s what my concern is. Also how is Apple Pay when talking about growth and learning aspect. Is the work challenging enough ?

I’m in Eddy’s org but not Apple Pay, but wlb is chill for me. No evenings/weekends, no dev on call.

Also there’s a Christmas shutdown every year, and we’ve been getting thanksgiving week off for the last 4 years; I’m not sure about before that. So wlb isn’t bad

There is no compensation data shared , even range is unknown to engineers . Only thing we know is cash bonus for each level. But I choose to believe the number is right. Meaningless to make a number to ask for suggestion .

You will regret joining Apple Pay. Run away from any Payment Org in established Corp even in Google. It is full of politics and you will need to fight for good work.

I would vote Apple . Have you ever used HipChat ? Apart from jira and confluence none of their other products are widely used across startups imo.

In my experience across multiple companies, confluence is only as good as people who use it. From a new feature and improvement stand point it doesn’t matter for majority of users. Big companies have several softwares like confluence spread across various teams and always a chaos of which one to use over other.

What role is it at Apple ? And sorry not to speak low of confluence or anything, just thinking subjectively

At Apple it is senior software engineer ict4. They don’t hire at higher level.

Ever heard of Bitbucket or trello? Atlassian has good wlb and solid culture. Moving across teams is not difficult. Infact its encouraged. You can work with different team for 3 months and then come back to your team again. Its called as secondment. Else you can also do a lateral permanent move if you don’t like your team provided there is an opening in other team. I am biased towards Atlassian just because of its culture.

Seems really unlikely to me. Look in the annual reports at how the stock/voting rights are held. As long as the founders/co-CEOs are still at the helm, I don't see it

My opinion is Apple. But you also need to ask yourself which one/either -interests- you. You’ll be most successful (both monetarily and personally) where you’re doing work that you are passionate about.

Cupertino/Sunnyvale vs SF. I heard apple’s refreshers are pretty fat. I also heard it’s relatively easy to switch teams at Apple after 1-1.5yrs.

    I’d personally go with Apple.

Yes, but that includes stock and bonus. Which means it makes an assumption that a year in the stock will be where it is now (it could be higher or lower) and that the company and the employee will both make their bonus targets (the could exceed them or fail to make them.)

Salary is going to be about 1/2 to 2/3 of that depending on how stock heavy the offer was

Go with Atlassian for wlb and company values / culture and growth . Apple is sweat shop and don’t see aggressive growth in near future.
