... Why?
I’ve had mild depression and social anxiety all my life. Didn’t even know I had it and just thought feeling like meh was the norm until I read a CBT book and took some inventory to establish a baseline. I got a dog and also now I do mindfulness meditations where I just sit silently and observe things (internal and external) like watching clouds go by. Worked wonders for my depression and anxiety. Before that I tried CBT, exercise, vitamins, supplements, crying, stress eating, drinking, marijuana, bubble baths, journaling, video games, hanging out with friends, leetcoding, none of these coping methods worked as well as mindfulness and puppy love. Edit: I do get chemical imbalance every month from PMS. With mindfulness meditation, I’ve become more aware of it sneaking up on me and don’t let it control me.
So you overcame it without any medication? If so, that's good to hear!
Yes because I only have a mild case of it. When shit happens every 2-3 years I get more moderate depression and I seek counseling at that point. I’ve tried anti depressants they made me sleepy and foggy brained, zombie like and didn’t feel joy or excited either. Not for me. Also my issues have to do with bad ruminating thoughts. Mindfulness helps you control repetitive useless thoughts from reoccurring.
No, my life has direction and purpose: Shitposting my way to Blind Top user.
More than half of people on Blind are depressed...
Used to be depressed. Lived in Seattle. I think the weather did it for me. Then moved to California. Night and day. Happy now
Yeah chugging vitamin D here. 😭😭😭
I twice the daily recommended vitamin D and was still depressed. I think it's the people, the food... The mentality idk.
Over 60% depressed people. Why??? Damn. No wonder Blind is so toxic, just a bunch of grumpy people trying to bring others down with them.
Clicked the post thinking it said "are you dressed?.. Why?" Comments threw me off.
I’m not because I sleep nude.
Blind did a blog post on this and the results were astonishing. > 40% of people responding from Microsoft and Amazon self reported being depressed, and > 30% at other companies. I wish they would have broken it down by location too though. http://blog.teamblind.com/index.php/2018/12/03/39-percent-of-tech-workers-are-depressed/
Iiinteresting...
Sad
Yup. Have been clinically depressed for 30 years. Just bad brain chemistry and messed up patenting. It's manageable with therapist sessions a few months at a time every few years.
Chemical imbalance? I've dealt with it for around 15 years now, so it's not going away anytime soon. So far, I've managed it with varying degrees of success, so I think I'm doing ok.
