I've been an interviewer for a while (before LC existed). Now when I go through LC, I can see that I'm not able to solve many of those questions (especially hard ones) within the 30 minutes timeframe, or without having seen them already. The questions I ask are not in LC and when I got into Amazon (and Google before Amazon) I didn't really "prepare". Because of this, it's been almost a year that I rejected all interview requests. Is anybody else in the same boat? Can all interviewers solve LC problems within the timeframe? P.S. I'm actually interested in comments from interviewers at FANG and other known companies who ask LC questions.
Thanks for sharing, itβs refreshing to see this perspective. What standards are you held to as an interviewer? Do you feel your interviews have gotten harder over time? Also, do you mind sharing the years you got into google and amazon. Just curious when the landscape started changing. Fucking sucks now
2013 into G
Tell who? Also I don't get what you mean by "refuse leet code". I'm not LCing and nobody asked me to do so. What should I refuse?!
No. Nobody asked me to LC anyone. I have my own questions to ask that are not in LC and Amazon is actually encouraging me.
Did u harass candidates with LC hards?
I wonder when an interviewer come up with a question, how much time he/she spent on solving that. I mean if you solved it like in an hour how can you expect someone else to solve in 30?
Can all Interviewers solve LC problems within the given time? I had been meaning to ask this for some time, and I didn't because I have a special respect for FAANG people, like all of you are 10X programmers which I am not, so yes, when I truly believe that all Interviews are a One-on-One test of skills, as in, if you expect me to solve a Sudoku or Crossword programmatically on the white-board, I imagined that Interviewers would have practiced the solution already. But, your question helps me to begin believing that I wasn't just privileged, never been at the right place at the right time as yet.
Yeah, if people were forced to reinterview most would not pass. I've heard Amazon actually wants you to feel like you snuck in or something along those lines.
the ability to solve artificial problems in an artificial timeline is in no way an indicator of the mythical "10x" developer.
I have a theory. Most people in the top tech companies nowadays wonβt be able to solve a lot of LC questions without preparing for it. The truth is, you need to practice for it, even if you are a seasoned coder.
I know few people in my team for whom solving LC won't be an issue, I mean they are super smart and come up with challenging technical problem so fast. But they don't go over TC or they are already paid top dollars.
I am sure there are folks like that. I doubt they are the majority though. Or you work with a big team of A listers, and I am happy for you!
LC is not useful at work other than interviews, but that's how the game is played now not many choices.
I just got humiliated by a FAANG interview. This post makes me feel a tiny little bit better.
Break the wheel: refuse to LC
Refuse whose request? Nobody asked me to LC, so there's nothing to refuse. I'm just asking for interviewers' point of view.
