Does anyone have any insight into this? It appears that these companies (and many others not mentioned) hire within these same sales circles and I find it really odd. I interviewed with Medallia a few years back and thought they’d ask me to fly to Guyana and drink some Kool-Aid... I understand the concept of building teams and trust, but some of the terminology they threw around wanted me to throw on a pair of white Nikes and hang out with the Hale-Bopp comet cult. Scratching my head...

Yes, MongoDB hires from the same sales network. A lot of the new sales staff are referrals. There is a huge problem with this too since one sexist sales director will hire more sexist sales staff under him. There is a huge diversity and gender problem within the MongoDB sales organization.
