Bad hiring process

My friend worked for Amazon for 7 years then went to startup for 3 years and now when he tried to join back Amazon, he was asked stupid DP question in telephonic round and was rejected. He is talented enough to find other job but Amazon just lost a good software developer. Why is the hiring process so bad which doesn't account for ones experience? Other experience I heard that for pinterest Someone got a reject because 'he solved the problem but the solution didn't click to him in first couple of minutes'. What is happening to sw world..

This is a shithole rat race. Welcome to the modern day software recruiting.

At age 37 with personal life commitments most people won't have time to spend endless hours on leetcode. Bad state of affairs.

That’s the main idea they want young blood

Yeah. Telephonic is a very important round. I wish people don't ask dp question in telephonic rounds because telephonic rounds are not face to face and sometimes there can be some telephonic problems which makes it difficult to convey your thinking process via a telephonic line.

Tell your friend to invest sometime on leetcode.. they love Leetcoder not software engineers

Frankly if your friend is working with amazon and asked to do the phone screen, he would have asked the similar question to some experienced hire. Somehow thats how it is.

So fucking true. Brings out all rage inside me.

I interviewed there with a Senior Software Engineer, Android. And they did not ask me any Android questions. Not even one. And not even mentioning Android keyword for the whole on-site interview. Because they didn't schedule anyone who knows Android as an interviewer.

I myself interviewed at amazon for some embedded position, and in the telephonic I was asked some totally irrelevant math based coding problem. I am happy I didn't end up in that shithole where people ask random questions. It shows how much they really care about bringing on good guys.

companies are not asking DP problems. they are asking if you are willing to take extra time to grind for this job, instead of spending it on personal life commitments
