Hi, I work for a horrible female manager. When I took the job I was happy as all my previous managers were men and I hoped this will be a better experience. However what followed was the worst experience. She expects me to work like her admin, asking personal tasks to be completed, giving me less opportunities than other men on the team. The job itself is very boring and different from what was communicated during hiring. She expects me to meet with her anytime, take calls during weekends etc. She is famous and often attends diversity conferences on behalf of the company but treats her own women ( currently just me, and the other women I heard all left) on the team really bad. I just recently joined the team so leaving would look very bad. I have been feeling sick and depressed thinking about going to work on Monday. All the men on the team suck up to her, and I feel I’m all alone. I’m a senior pm, if I leave how would I explain leaving so soon to other hiring managers? Would they take me seriously? I joined in July but the situation is unbearable. Has anyone else suffered through similar situation with a famous person treating you poorly? She often talks about all the different awards and meetings with satya and Kathleen that I know I cannot complain against her to HR or anyone. I cannot openly talk to others on the team since I’m new here. Any tips to handle this situation would be very helpful.
Suck it up and start building connections ... It's gonna be worse before it gets better..that's the truth for most of life situations...
It's really a shame how often I hear stories like this about women working for female managers. It's like so many women punish other women once they're in power. What's up with that?
Just leave the team or company It will reflect poorly on her not to retain you
if the job is miserable ... its best to leave, no point in sticking it out just for the fear of it not looking good. It will affect you confidence levels the longer you take to leave this situation.
Leave the team. There is no minimum period to be in a team. Tell the work at your current place is not interesting.
If you go to a different company, no one cares how long you were in each specific team while you were at MS
LOL you can easily complain to HR. Awards mean nothing
Don't
Look for new job move to a diff company why moving is not an option
HR will sound like a resource for you, but in reality their primary responsibility is to defend the leadership. Be careful if you decide to approach HR.
Yes. Write down what she does and how it makes you feel followed by a specific(s) example of a time when that happened. Compile a list and then ask yourself if it’s your or her. Then confide in someone you trust and let them give you their opinion of the situation. From there the answer will emerge. Either you can change the way you’re doing things or you’ll have to have a conversation with her.
OP knows the answer already. Just afraid to act on it and looking for moral support. OP, do it! Quit that team!
