Bay Area Move vs Florida

Hi, Currently working as Senior Engineer @Florida YOE - 10 years 115- Base avg 20-25% Annual Bonus for a decent performance - variable can go up to 33% if company and individual performs well. 6% 401k marching up to 100% 3% Annual Profit Matching TC = 150-160k Other Benefits - Excellent WLB and Remote option 20 weeks of paternity leave. Recently took one for my son last year Sunny weather @ west coast Florida Funded 25k recently for my MBA from premier Florida business School. No contract can exit any time Options 1 . possible opportunity to move into BigData / Machine Learning team in the existing firm as the current team provides no growth or 2. go for a possible opportunity for midsize growing company @SF as Engineering Manager in terms of compensation what should I ideally accept for option 2? Company does provide RSU and base but no signin bonus etc. thanks for your inputs

You are looking at 300-400k TC in Bay area to have the same standard of life. Base should be around 175k.

American Express Dtoz41 OP Feb 18, 2019

What should be the ideal Base ?

See response above.

Base would be 180-200k

SF/tech is a bubble. You missed the ride so hang in fla and wait for the reset.

American Express Dtoz41 OP Feb 18, 2019

When do you project the bubble will reset ?

I’d be a billionaire if I could answer that precisely. Trump policies pushed it back by a couple of years but it’s coming. I’d say less than three years with a confidence coefficient of 4 standard deviations.

If that midsize growing company is not public, you will end up having around half of your salary as most possibly worthless paper money. Don't make the move unless you plan to develop your career here, which may require initial TC sacrifice. And who knows by that time the bubble may burst and you may have no career here at all

American Express Dtoz41 OP Feb 18, 2019

It is public @75 price and growing at good pace

Then TC somewhere around 350 should be good.
