I'm a mediocre software engineer, live in Orange County. My TC is 145 with 13 yoe. I'm thinking to move to lower cost area where my money TC would go further and allow me to save more money for retirement. I was thinking Phoenix, Salt Lake City or Austin. Which of those cities is better in terms of COL and job opportunities? I'm married and planning to have children, so looking for a city good for families.
Add Raleigh
Isn't Orange county close to Raleigh? I live at Chapel Hill lol
Could be Orange County, CA
You just need to find a place that pays better in LA/OC.
I hear good things about Austin. What do you think makes you mediocre? No desire to pursue FANG life?
I started doing leetcode recently, but I'm not that good at it. I failed onsites with Amazon, Google and Lime.
This is nothing, I have failed way more and when I started leetcode I thought I was no good too. If you keep at it you would do fine
Atx is way better than the others you listed. Great tech scene, and it’s getting better. Let me know if u see any Atlassian roles u need referral for.
Actually I take that back, SLC is pretty great too. I’d pick SLC since I can’t stand the heat and allergies in ATX
Would you dm me pls
Do u work at weedmaps?
Lol no, but I was thinking about applying. What's TC at Weedmaps?
Are Austin tech salaries same as Seattle?
Usually, no, lower
Dallas
Where’s the Amazon office?
Galleria
Atlanta
Do you work in Atlanta?
Have you considered working remote?
Yes, do remote jobs pay as well?
They do. Look on Stack Overflows jobs.
Austin > SLC > Phoenix, Austin very good for opportunities
What's wrong with Phoenix? I kinda like it.
