Career change - Is it worth moving to program management?

i have been coding (app development) for past 20 yrs with last two as Engineering Manager (less coding 40-50%). i am contemplating move to either program management or ML. I dont want to move up the ladder on management side. Too much politics and back stabbing. I want to do something different. i am confused. Any advise? TC- 250k

You code 40 percent of the time as an EM?

Yes try too. Do code reviews as well. I always take few stories every sprint although it’s hard with other management stuff. On hindsight that could be the reason why I am feeling burned out.

Yes! Stop coding. If you are a manager, be a manager ffs.

If you hate politics - program manager is not the way to go. It's like all the politics you get when you're a manager but this time, without authority and no direct budget control.

Yes sure, why not. You want to switch, then focus on it
